Technology – Trusses

How is it made?

We produce roof trusses from the highest quality of raw materials. The wood we use for the trusses is imported from Scandinavian countries. The harsh climate of the North and the Swedish foresters' century-long tradition of cultivating forests gives us the guarantee that the raw materials are of highest quality. A sound knowledge of the market and a many-year-long cooperation with our suppliers allow us to offer perfect Scandinavian wood in the prices of its Polish types.

To guarantee an adequate structure's stability, for our trusses we only use wood:

  • mechanically and optically sorted for durability on designated sorting lines, without hidden defects that are often hard to spot, class C24 minimum

  • kiln dried at a temperature of 80 degrees Celsius – the sawn timber used for production has to be dry, with a moisture content below 18%. Only raw materials of these characteristics guarantee the roof's stability and sustainability. The drying process also kills any insects and fungi found in the wood, preventing their growth.

  • four-sides planed with rounded edges – the wood's smoothness increases its resistance to insects, fungi and fire – flames slide on the wood's smooth surface, giving us time to extinguish the fire source.

How long does production take?

Production time depends on the complexity of the structure and normally takes from one to a few days. One needs to remember, however, that performing the whole commission takes longer. First out constructor prepares a construction plan, which involves elaborate calculations and preparing production documentation. The date of execution is also influenced by production and assembly team's current workload. That is why we suggest our clients to plan early and contact us about two months before the estimated time the trusses are to be assembled.

How is it assembled?

Mounting the trusses is usually an uncomplicated process as the most difficult matters concerning the structure's design are dealt with at our production plant. The assembly can be conducted by one of our teams specializing in mounting prefabricated structures, performed by a construction company cooperating with the investor from the beginning or done by the investor themselves with the help of a few acquaintances. We can also train an assembly team at the investor's request. Together with the structure, you will receive a detailed construction plan with transport, storage and assembly manuals.

Do I need a CE?

The whole truss production process at our plant undergoes verification and an everyday inspection by the Factory Production Control department. Due to that, we are allowed to mark our trusses with the CE marking and deliver them to any European market.

According to current norms and regulations, all construction products in circulation on the building market need to have the CE marking.

The lack of such a marking may result in a prohibition of receipt issued by the Department of Construction Supervision and the require to buy a whole new structure.

Will it hold?

The technology we use comes from Scandinavian countries, where long and harsh winters forced the inhabitants to constantly improve their housing production. Learning from the experience of Scandinavian constructors, the Mitek company started producing multi-spiked plates and is improving their production method up to this day. We can therefore assure our clients that a structure produced by a company will last through the strongest winds and snowfalls.

What can the structure be covered with?

The structure is designed for a specific type of roofing and its load.

Our structures can be covered with any type of roofing, e.g.:

  • ceramic roof tiles
  • concrete roofing
  • steel tiles
  • trapezoid sheet metal
  • tar board shingles or tar paper with a full roof structure boarding
  • cane
  • slate
  • Obornicka plate and other

How much does it cost?

The price of the roof trusses is assessed individually on the basis of the specified structure's planned design. It is related to matters of the structures' great variety and numerous factors that impact the structure itself along with its price. The most important factors are:

  • the building's dimensions and the trusses' span
  • the inclination angle of the roof slope
  • attic type
  • type and thickness of thermal insulation
  • the building's geographical location and the areas typical wind and snow loads

Do I pay for the price evaluation?

Each of our clients that sends us a request for a structure's price evaluation will receive a free price evaluation that will prepare within a few days. The evaluation usually lists, apart from the structure itself, the price of assembly components, including fittings and bracing elements, and the transport and assembly costs.

When can I decide to choose a prefabricated structure?

We recommend our clients to choose our technology at the planning phase, which will allow for lowering the structure's cost along with the cost of walls and foundations.

But it is never too late for prefabrication. Prefabricated trusses are much lighter than traditional ones and generate less impact on the walls, so you can choose to use them even after placing the cornice. Changing the structure's type does not require additional construction permits – it is treated as insubstantial by Construction Law.

How does it hold?

For manufacture we only use certified plates produced by the Mitek company. These are plates made of galvanized or stainless steel with specific plate thickness and nail length parameters.

The plates' type and size are selected by the designer at the planning phase and the choice depends on the side forces impacting the truss.

The plates are pressed into the trusses by special purpose presses of a minimum pressure power of 35 tons.

Thanks to this, it is not required to use expensive fittings of other types for the trusses.
